[Event] DRIFTWOOD - Book Circle
Date: Tuesday, 15 November 2005 , 04:00 PM
— 05:00 PM
Duration: 1 hrs [view day] [view week] [view month] [view agenda] Driftwood Public Library Book Circle @ 4:00 p.m. November 15, 2005 Welcome to the Book Circle. The Book Circle meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Fischer Room. The Book Circle is reader organized and readers choose the book list. All are invited to attend. This month we are discussing The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. More about the book: 1. What do you do when you meet the love of your life when you're six years old? And he's 36, but he's really only eight years older than you are? If you're Clare Abshire, you wait for each of his visits throughout the years until you meet him in real time.... (From ReviewsOfBooks.com) 2. ....Rather than a super power or gift, his time travelling is more of a curse. Brought on by moments of stress, he is forever leaving and catapulting naked into an unknown moment of his own past. His visits tend to be back to important events or people in his own life - hence his adult visits to the young Clare, occasionally he returns to a younger self and has repeated painful visits to the scene of the tragic car accident when he was six, that killed his beloved mother..... (From Book-Club) 3. ....The Time Traveler's Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare's marriage and their passionate love for each other as the story unfolds from both points of view. Clare and Henry attempt to live normal lives, pursuing familiar goals—steady jobs, good friends, children of their own. All of this is threatened by something they can neither prevent nor control, making their story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.
