[Event] NEWPORT - Visioning Our Future
Date: Monday, 13 February 2006 , 07:00 PM
— 09:00 PM
Duration: 2 hrs [view day] [view week] [view month] [view agenda] Visioning Our Future Newport Public Library Begins @ 7:00 p.m. on February 13, & 21 "Visioning Our Future" is the topic of a series of programs that will be held this month at the Newport Public Library. The public is invited to attend these free programs, which will take place in the library's conference room on Monday, Feb. 6, Monday, Feb. 13, and Tuesday, Feb. 21. All meetings begin at 7 p.m. Those attending will view video excerpts from Bioneers' Conferences, which will be followed by a time for discussion. The Bioneers are a group of scientific and social innovators who have met in an annual conference since 1990. They showcase visionary and practical solutions for restoring the earth and communities that provide a hopeful future and the basis for sound economies. The first two programs feature Janine Benyus and David Suzuki . The third program with be announced later. The Monday, February 13 program features Janine Benyus, who describes a new approach to technology that mimics nature's waste-free, non-toxic and ultra efficient design. The author of six books, including "Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature," she works as a "biologist at the design table," helping community leaders, and engineers develop thriving, profitable businesses modeled on life's genius. Previously, on Monday, February 6, David Suzuki finds a basis for sound local economies in an understanding of what it means be a human being. Suzuki, of Canada, is a scientist, educator, and public TV broadcaster whose programs include CBS' "Planet for the Taking," the PBS eight-part series "The Secret of Life," and the long-running, "The Nature of Things." A speaker and writer, he is the recipient of many awards and the founder of The David Suzuki Foundation. Organizers say these programs provide an opportunity for everyone to consider the assets of the community, the natural gifts of the coastal environment, and what these mean for moving forward to new sustainable possibilities for Lincoln County.
