[Event] YACHATS - Open House
Date: Saturday, 14 January 2006 , 12:00 PM
— 01:00 PM
Duration: 1 hrs [view day] [view week] [view month] [view agenda] Yachats Public Library Open House Saturday, January 14, 2006 Yachats Library is holding an open house to celebrate a new look and to honor a founding mother, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14. Ceremonies begin at noon. Marie Green, chair of the Yachats Library Commission, is presiding with Mayor Sue Smith and City Council members in attendance. Refreshments will be served. Because of a grant from Trust Management of Waldport, contributions from Friends of Yachats Library, and a very large group of volunteers, the library has been improved. The roof is new. The interior has been newly painted in a soft green. A new carpet was installed. Bookcases were removed, scrubbed, and repositioned. The refurbished children's room is to be renamed for Mrs. Virginia Chamberlain, who worked tirelessly to establish Yachats' very own library back in the 1970s. During the fall, Carolyn White, current volunteer children's librarian, worked to replace worn children's books and add new books. Funding for this project came from a Trust Management grant. Reference books are now in a quiet corner with a nearby table and chairs. New paperbacks are on spinners, as are videos and dvds. The Wall Street Journal, Eugene Register-Guard, Siuslaw News, News-Times, and South County News are in a rack near a comfortable reading area. Two computers are available for use to check e-mail or do research. These were gifts from the Gates Foundation. The large-print book section is greatly enlarged and much used by residents of Sea Aire, the local assisted living center. Be a part of the fun -- visit the Yachats Public Library. posted Friday, 13 January 2006 Leave a comment to this blog-entry
